September 6, 2020 marks the 400-year anniversary of an iconic moment in American and British history.
In 1620 the Mayflower, a three-masted Dutch-type cargo ship, set sail from Plymouth, England, for a perilous journey across the Atlantic carrying 102 Puritan Separatists from England and Holland. These pilgrims fleeing religious persecution would go on to become some of the first colonists in the New World. Today their story forms the foundation of modern American history and culture.
“The dangers were great, but not desperate; the difficulties were many, but not invincible… their ends were good & honorable… and therefore they might expect the blessing of God.”
– William Bradford
