Proceed to Nyaung U market, a hive of activity featuring delicious local delicacies and handicrafts. Lunch at a local restaurant. Day 3: Bagan – Mt. Popa
The volcano Mt Popa stands over 1500m, affording spectacular views to those that reach its summit. Brief stopover at a traditional toddy palm farm en route. Lunch at a restaurant before return to Bagan, followed by a gentle horse- drawn cart ride through the temples, with opportunities for photographs and to appreciate the early-evening street scenes.

Day 4: Bagan – Mandalay
Morning flight to Mandalay, the hub of Buddhism in Myanmar and a realm of stupas, monasteries and glorious pagodas. Guided visit to Amarapura, crossing the U Bein teakwood bridge, possibly the oldest and longest of its kind. Afternoon transfer to your hotel in Mandalay, then enjoy the Golden Palace monastery, the Kuthodaw pagoda, and the beautiful sunset seen from Mandalay Hill.

Day 5: Mandalay – Mingun
Today a pleasant boat trip to Mingun village on the other bank of the Irrawaddy River for a half-day excursion, returning to Mandalay in time for lunch. Later a short drive to scenic Sagaing, to visit the silversmith workshop, the International Buddhist Academy, and Sagaing Hill, returning to Mandalay at dusk.

Day 6: Mandalay – Pyin Oo Lwin
A full-day excursion to Pyin Oo Lwin (formerly Maymyo), a picturesque little British colonial hill station, returning to overnight in Mandalay again.

Day 7: Mandalay – Inle Lake
Morning flight to Heho, gateway to Inle Lake. On meeting your local guide you’ll drive to Nyaung Shwe jetty, visiting an old monastery en-route. Upon arrival, you’ll take a boat to your hotel on the lake, followed by lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch there will be a visit to the Inn Paw Khone village to explore a cheroot workshop, and learn about the ancient crafts of lotus weaving and Shan papermaking practised by the long-neck women. See the Nga Phe Chaung monastery, an attractive wooden structure on stilts known for the many cats that make it their home.

Day 8: Inle Lake
A restful day. Begin with a visit to the floating market, where many tribes come together to barter and sell produce, before taking a boat up a little creek to explore the intricately-carved Indein pagoda complex. This calm location is ideal for wandering around in the cool lakeside breeze, and watching the buffalo washing in the water. After lunch you will be at leisure to make the most of your accommodation’s facilities and unwind for a few hours.

Day 9: Inle Lake – Ngapali
Departing your hotel by boat, you will meet transport at the jetty in Nyaung Shwe and drive to the airport. Here you can take a dip, sunbathe and fully relax in blissful privacy.
